I wasn't kiddin' when I said I'd be back with more,

Another buncha figs I snapped away at was another collectors' Panda Kings.  This guy is kinda jus' gettin' into the game, but man is he serious about his game too.  He's a lover of Mr. Woebots and he has quite the collection of 'em.  The guy is pretty beast!  He had me take a few pics of his prized goods...err...Monarch n one off Pow Wow Panda Kings...

Hangin' out with da boyz...Part 1

Today it was grand,

Having the opportunity meeting up with a collectors here from the 808.  We all met up at "my buddy's" crib and I had them bring some of their family jewels...err personal collection figs and I snapped away at 'em.  Gotta love it when the boys get together, we crazy folk!

(Name that movie, lol...along with the killer figs in the photo, "the boys" get a killer laugh outta this photo, puahahahahaha!)

And you know it's all about the food, damn, lookin' at the pic my mouth waters for all of this goodness we had.  To the left, good ole HaynMade brought a sushi platter, courtesy of Waipuna Sushi.  Here's their website if you ever wanna check 'em out: http://waipunasushi.com.  I particularly like their spicy ahi tobiko mayo nigiri and their "Brandon maki" which is spicy ahi tobiko mayo nigiri on a shrimp tempura maki, whew, it's good stuff.  "Our host" hooked us up with burgers that he slammed together, oh man, it was soooo good.  If I remember correctly his meat, err...the patty was from Whole Foods.  The chicken to the right was from Dirty Lickens', which was brought by our "3rd collector friend" aww man, this was the first time I tried their food, whew, gooooood stuff, I nearly choked on his chicken...err...it was good lol.  If you wanna check these guys out, click here.

The first stuff I started snapping away at was at our "Host's" collection.  The guy is pretty beast when it comes to collecting as a whole, but is monster when it comes to 3A.  Heres some pics of his goods, err...his 3A figs.

Killer Hau'ula rental...

For good ole work,

As many of you know, I work with Hawaiian students and part of the mission of my work is to really provide them with an array of opportunities so that they can get inspired and aspired to pursue their educational and career goals for the future.  My passion is to give them those opportunities that they may never get in school and/or at home.  By doing so, in all of the data and reports that I do for my job, it shows that by doing so, many of my students end up with well off futures in their education, careers and even in their future families.

For this particular get together for work, the group of students that I work with were doing research on the marine debris situation in Japan and how that may potentially affect the environment here in Hawai'i.  Throughout the year, my students have been working quite hard and I felt the need to continue our work but in an environment that would not only support that but at a place where they could also unwind and enjoy each other's company.

So nearly by accident, I found an awesome vacation rental in Hau'ula.  It's a very quaint two, two story houser, with a number of perks.  Here's some photos, do note, not all of these photos were taken by me.

But it was the perfect place for my group, we were able to relax a little and also get down to work in preparation for my students' science presentations for their families and some of the University of Hawai'i at Manoa presenters.

Math project with the niece...

So my niece gave me a rang,

Asking me to see if I'd be able to help her with a project she needed to do for her math class.  For her project, she needed to make an ornament, which needed to fit certain dimensions and she was required to use different shapes.  From each of those shapes, my niece needed to figure out the area and volume, pretty cool stuff.  Being the creative head that I am I jumped to the opportunity and together we created a Dumbo fig, made out of different shapes of wood.  Sure looks familiar to a certain artist huh, ya, that was intentional, lol.

Woes n Scribe n Marine oh my...

So for Pow Wow,

I knew both Scribe n Angry Woebots were gonna make an appearance here in the 808 for Pow Wow.  I dug into my vault of some of my most prized figs not yet displayed in my collection and grabbed my extra one off Jouwe Wings figs that my good buddy Marine hooked me up with back in my beginning phase of collecting.

When these pair of figs were mailed to me from Marine, the arms and wings snapped off while in transit.  Marine replaced me with a brand new set of one off's but I held on to the damaged Jouwe Wings, for one special day, and that special day has finally come.

Scribe n Woes proudly hit these figs up and grinned when I presented these figs to them, being that they both remembered Marine's sculpts from my first Jouwe show I curated here in the 808 back in the day.  But ya, the results from both artists are hella awesome, especially with 'em being hit up by only black Sharpie pens.

Some of the Pow Wow goodness...

Damn,

It's been seriously 2 months since I've posted anything on here?  Man, I need to get a life, lol.  Anyhow, last week was one awesome one with Pow Wow.  For those of you who don't know what Pow Wow is, it's become a yearly event here in the 808 where artists from Hawai'i and beyond fly on in and hit up Kaka'ako with their work on a number of the buildings there.

Along with the art, this year, there was a lil push with the fig world, thanks to a bunch of folks from Lightsleepers, Silent Stage, Cardboard Spaceship, etc. etc. A few figures were sold by some of the greats like Scribe and Alisa Ross, Angry Woebots and Yoskay Yamamoto, to name a few.  Below are a couple (of the many) goodies I got from Pow Wow from Scribe and Woes.

The shark bee, was done as a special Hawai'i release for Pow Wow, man, I had to bring my camera out and snap some pics, which came out (in my opinion) stunning.  Woes' dunny wasn't a special release for Pow Wow, I brought it along with me for Woes to hit up and what he did was amazing, unreal what a splash of gold can do.

Science project with the godson...

So I got the call from my 12 year old godson,

Who asked if good ole Uncle HaynMade would be able to help him out with his science project on the solar system.  Being the creative-minded, artsy fartsy, go against the grain kind of person I am, I stepped to the plate and took advantage of this awesome opportunity.  Along with all of that good stuff, I pretty much bend over backwards for my godson (along with the other children I look after).

I had to think super hard to how I wanted him to go about displaying the solar system, and I didn't wanna do the  common "solar system mobile" or the "solar system box scene" thing.  So I had my godson's mom get a basic set of blank styrofoam solar system planets and a set of Kidrobot figs to hold all of the planets.  I then brought my big box of "tricks" complete with paint, brushes, glue guns, spray glitter, etc., etc.

I guided my godson on how to paint the planets, based upon pics he looked up on the internet and had him sort the planets in order.  I gotta say, it looks pretty damn good, and when he took his project to school, my godson's teacher said "Very, very creative!"  Haha, you know how I roll, creativity is the only way...
